Taxes at the local level like Crystal, MN are much like a condo association fee.  At a condo or home owners association a monthly fee is paid to cover a wide range of repair and maintenance incurred when community owned buildings and infrastructure.
Similar to life in a condo or home owners association, residents of a city pay a tax to cover the costs of services,  repair and maintenance of city services and infrastructure.  These services include, but are not limited to:
  • Water/Sewer Utilities.  Residents pay for what they use, but also must pay for infrastructure and maintenance to sustain these utilities.
  • Storm water
  • Public Safety, Police and Fire
  • Snow Plowing
  • Street Maintenance and Repair
  • Parks & Recreation
  • City Administration
We receive services for the tax money we pay.  It does not go into a dark hole as some may want you to think.
