The last of the videos posted for this election.
Funny, when we started this race, my opponent talked about saving Crystal residents $1 million dollars on the new Public Works building because he spent our savings account (the reserves) rather than bonding for a long term fixed asset.
In this video, the figure is $1 million dollars. During the candidate forum taping on October 6, my opponent inflated that figure to $6 million dollars. (also posted on this web site).
What do you make of an elected official who inflates his declaration of savings by $5 million dollars? Perhaps that he cannot be trusted? If my opponent truly believed in transparency, he could prove any savings rather than just tossing numbers around and telling you he is “moving us forward”. He is moving us forward into the poor farm.
When you raise taxes by $642,000 in one year, you are not saving anything. Many citizens do not know there was an extra $566,000 in the budget no one is mentioning. That money is from the County Rd 81 payments that were taken on when the road was built during my terms. The project was a $70 million dollar project and Crystal’s portion was $4 million in interest free money from Hennepin County. That project is now paid off leaving $566,000 of money that should have been available to keep taxes low. Where is that money? I know that if we ask our current mayor, he will have an answer, but it won’t make sense.
Here is how I define good money management: I budgeted to a surplus and then saved the surplus into reserve accounts. In 2008 when the markets crashed and tax revenue decreased, my tax increase in 2009 and 2010 was 3.5 percent. I froze wages for those two year’s also to make sure I would not tax Crystal citizens out of their homes.
We have an incredibly hot economy and housing values are up to their 2008 level, revenue’s therefore are up. I ask: where is the money?
I am a strong financial leader who will take this city back to its strong financial roots and stable, low tax increases. Vote for ReNae Bowman for a brighter future
